Pouring the floor with expanded clay with your own hands

Filling with keramzite is far superior in its quality alternative options of sand and cement. This option will suit you if the room is necessary to raise the floor, without increasing the load on the interfloor ceilings. Such a casting perfectly withstands temperature fluctuations, it is fire-resistant. Керамзитобетон Pouring the floor does not rot and does not mold, and this allows you to perform work on the leveling of technical areas with high humidity and low temperatures. Claydite material itself is light enough, so transportation and handling does not cause problems. Claydite inexpensive material, which means that the leveling of the floor with expanded clay – an economical solution. Sometimes expanded clay is the only possible option. For example, if you need to level a space with a height of more than 10 cm. In this case it is not possible to fill the entire area with cement mortar because of the possibility of damaging the floor slabs. It is not necessary to invite a huge team of specialists to level the floor. This process is quite simple, so the filling of the floor expanded clay is accessible even to amateurs.

Filling the floor with expanded clay (method one)

    1. First of all, you should prepare the floor for screeding – clean the surface from debris and dust, seal the gaps between the floor slabs. Smooth places should be sanded and scraped, as leaving them untouched, you run the risk of screed detachment after a while;
    2. Next, the surface must be primed. The primer is applied in 2 layers, the second is applied only after the drying of the first. After isolate the walls from the screed. For this purpose, both the intended for this purpose damping tape, as well as roofing felt or polyethylene film will do. Insulation prevents the penetration of moisture from the screed to the lower floors, as well as the cracking of the screed as it dries;
    3. Carry out the marking of the room with a laser or water level. It is necessary to draw a horizontal line, which will close at the end. This “horizon line” should be located one meter from the floor;
    4. Next, we draw a zero level. With an ordinary ruler we measure the distance from the floor to the “horizon line”. The smallest value o will be this level. From this point mark on the wall the width of the future screed. Measure the distance from this point to the “horizon line”. Now measure this distance along the entire perimeter of the wall.
    5. Install the beacons. First, screw a self-tapping screw into the corner just above the screed level mark. Put a metal profile on the self-tapping end and mark the line of intersection with the “horizon line”. In the other corner, do the same thing. The base for the beacons is ready. Install the beacons – pour some mortar on the self-tapping screws, place the beacons on top. Allow the beacons to dry;
    6. Spread expanded clay with a fine fraction over the entire surface. The thickness of this coating should be approximately 20 – 25 mm. Naturally, the coating will not be the same thickness everywhere. However, the surface should be perfectly flat. This is checked with a level;

    1. The expanded clay is poured with cement mortar. For its preparation, it is necessary to dilute cement with water in the proportions – 2 parts of water to 1 part of cement. The mixture should be homogeneous, for its mixing it is good to use a drill with a nozzle “mixer”. The homogeneity and the absence of lumps is checked with your hands.Next, the resulting mortar is poured evenly on the expanded clay. For 24 hours we leave the surface for bonding and drying;

  1. Next, the mortar is poured. After drying, the beacons are removed, and the cracks are sealed.

Pouring the floor with expanded clay (method two)

Заливка пола с керамзитом

    1. The stage of preparing the surface with their own hands and the establishment of the “horizon line”, the beacons are identical to the first method.
    2. Water is mixed with claydite and mixed with a mixer.
    3. Adding in soaked claydite cement with sand or ready-made purchased mixture. The proportions are determined “by eye” – so much water that the expanded clay is soft, and the solution should be thick and homogeneous. Check the absence of lumps in the mixture with your hands.

  1. Pour the ready mixture 20-25 mm to the level of the floor. This is the first layer. After pouring at once the second finishing layer. The surface of the last layer is carefully leveled.

Pouring with your own hands is simple enough, the main thing – to know the technique of marking and installing beacons, to have practical experience with mortars. (6 ratings, average: 4.50 из 5)
