Hercules floor screed

More and more manufacturers have begun to produce materials designed for independent preparation of mortars. One of these is a ready-made dry mix called “Hercules”, for pouring floor screed. Manufacturing company produces it for the purpose of arrangement of horizontal bases for further installation of tile, parquet, laminate, decorative coatings and other flooring materials.
Specialists note the high level of strength of the ready mix, frost resistance, a significant degree of sound insulation, as well as resistance to cracking. “Hercules” can be used at both high and low humidity values.

Technical characteristics of the floor mix “Hercules”

  1. The resulting coating has a tensile strength of 20 MPa, and the bending strength of 3 MPa.
  2. The slight thickness of the floor makes it possible to move on the applied mortar in a day after the completion of the work.
  3. The next stage can proceed after 3 days.
  4. Ready mix contains a fraction of sand 2.5 mm and needs only to be diluted with water.
  5. Local filling of cracks – 30 mm.
  6. The level of adhesion is 1 MPa.
  7. The recommended layer thickness is 5 cm, minimum – 10 mm, maximum – 10 cm.
  8. The mortar is not suitable for external works.

The dry mixture is available in packages of 25 kg. The average market price ranges in the range 140-160 rubles per bag. Some retail outlets sell the material for 200-210 rubles per bag.

Important stages of application of the mixture

The concrete base, on which the screed “Hercules” will be poured, requires preliminary preparatory measures. First of all, it must be cleaned from oil stains, dust, dirt and other inclusions that affect the quality of the result. The substrate must be strong, for this purpose all loose spots are removed. Cracks and cracks are pre-filled with the same ready-made mortar. The final stage of preparatory work – treatment of the concrete with a strengthening impregnation, preferably the same manufacturer. Further operations can be carried out only after it has dried.

Preparation of high-quality mortar

For this process, you will need the optimum amount of water, according to the proportion of 120-180 ml per 1 kg of dry screed. The mixture is poured into a working tank along with the liquid, and then subjected to manual or mechanical stirring until a homogeneous mass is formed. After that, you should wait a few minutes, and then repeat the action. The solution for the floor “Hercules” is used for not more than 3 hours.

Do not allow excessive variation in the volume of liquid used. The smallest errors can be the consequence of reducing the strength of the screed and the formation of cracks.
Beacons are installed before applying the mortar.

How to install beacons correctly?

There are two options for installing beacons.

Option 1:

  1. all around the perimeter of the walls put marks, using a level. Their number depends on the complexity of the work: the more, the better;
  2. after the marks unite with a single line;
  3. determine a line relative to the horizontal – ground level, which comes from the height of the future screed. Using a rope marked marks at the same distance from the bottom of the surface around the perimeter;
  4. these points are also joined by one line, which indicates the maximum level of the floor;
  5. laser level is directed to the wall, on which the marks are put, subsequently united by a solid line;
  6. at a distance of 200-300 mm from the wall is set profile beacon along the line drawn on the floor.

Option 2:

  1. long screws are screwed into the surface of the floor;
  2. they are installed strictly on the level;
  3. between the screws is stretched a rope or twine, along which the mortar for mounting the profile beacons is applied as a slide;
  4. the profile is placed in the mortar close to the rope and on the level.

Common patterns for both options:

  1. the distance between the beacons should be less than 100-150 mm of the length of the rule. The tool should slide over the surface and slightly rest;
  2. the beacons are mounted parallel to each other along the entire perimeter;
  3. it is not recommended to use pads of bricks or bars to put the beacons at the required level. Wet screeding method will not only lead to deformation of the above materials, but also to cracking of the floor. It is best to use a dowel installed in a slide of mortar as a beacon.

Application of mortar

Mortar is applied to the concrete base strictly between the screeds and is smoothed with a special tool – a rule. It is important not to allow voids in the thickness of the screed. The duration of the use of the mortar for quality results should be reduced to a minimum.

The temperature range of the concrete surface and surroundings during the laying of mortar, and during the next 3 days should be within the range of 5-25 degrees. Do not create the presence of drafts or ventilate the room.

The final stage

After carrying out the work, you should take care to prevent the rapid drying of the solution “Hercules”. To do this, the surface is carefully moistened with water, covered with plastic film or wet sawdust for 3 days.

The thickness of the future floor of 50 mm or more needs a mesh reinforcement in the middle of the layer. Consumption of dry mixture can be calculated by the formula:
C=S X D; S – surface area of the base; D – the required thickness of the layer.

Hercules” dry mixture is fire and explosion-proof, contains no toxic and asbestos fibers and is environmentally safe. In case of contact with eyes with solution or powder wash them immediately with plenty of water. Proper storage of the material: without contact of the closed original packaging with moisture, makes it possible to preserve the properties of the mixture “Hercules” during 1 year from the date of manufacture.
